On 16th July 2020, the government of India banned 59 Chinese Apps in India amid privacy concerns. Out of the 59 applications that were banned, some applications had become a household name and used to come pre-loaded on a number of devices in one form or another. realme devices are no exception to this as they are shipped with a Security app that houses “Clean Master-Cheetah Mobile“, for few functions to work. The Security app is a system application and as a result, it can’t be easily removed unless you are ready to get messy with ADB settings and so on, which isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.
Netizens pointed this out to realme on various social media platforms like Twitter, realme Community, and other social media channels. As a result, realme put out a statement regarding the banned applications that come pre-loaded with realme devices.
realme has now stated that the Cleaner Master app that has been integrated into the realme Security application will be removed via an OTA update that will arrive to all realme devices by early August. While this move may strip the security app of certain features and functions, it is a welcome move to enhance user privacy by abiding with the notice provided by the Indian government. realme has asked users to shift to other alternatives from Play Store for the features that will get removed due to this move.
realme has also stated that while the released devices will get an OTA update to rectify this situation, the newly launched devices like realme 6i will ship without Clean Master right from the beginning, but in case you’re impatience you can try this workaround to get rid of Clean Master right away. Users will also have the option to delete the pre-installed applications that they don’t need. We will inform our readers as soon as the updates with the aforementioned changes arrive via our dedicated update tracker section at realme Central.
