realme X3 Series to ditch AMOLED display in favor of a 120Hz refresh rate display, and will pack Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+!

The smartphone industry, especially on the Android side, is becoming more and more specification centric. From an insane amount of RAM, that you’ll probably never need, to high megapixels count, we’ve all come across the marketing mumbo-jumbo and gimmicks. However, a recent trend that has picked up, is the high refresh rate screens. Until now, the refresh rate of smartphone screens was capped at 60Hz, and then began a wave of high refresh rate screens on smartphones, predominantly 90Hz and 120Hz. The problem arrives when certain OEMs sacrifice the screen quality for higher refresh rates. This has happened previously with POCO X2 when they made a decision to go with a 120Hz LCD panel instead of an AMOLED panel of lower refresh rate. After POCO, realme is the next brand which is jumping on 120Hz refresh rate train. All the realme X series devices launched till date in India had AMOLED display, but seems like it’s going to change with upcoming realme X3. Today, flipkart teaser page has confirmed that realme X3 will launch with 120Hz refresh rate in India, which we’re assuming is not a AMOLED display as higher refresh rate AMOLED displays are pricey as of now.

This has been a feature that has been borrowed from the PC monitor market, as there the refresh rate matters, especially for high FPS games, among other things. However, on smartphones, while a higher refresh rate, does make a difference in the overall experience, especially while scrolling and browsing through the UI, most apps and games, and even in the UI aren’t optimized enough to take advantage of this higher refresh rate. So, while higher refresh rates are definitely an added bonus, we will leave the question of how important they are to our readers, and if they’re worth sacrificing beautiful AMOLED displays.

As realme has already launched the X3 Superzoom in various other markets, we already had an idea what it had to offer, but we were expecting realme X3 to retain AMOLED display from it’s predecessors. We’re expecting realme X3 to share a lot of specifications in common with realme X3 SuperZoom that launched in Europe a few weeks back. realme India support has also confirmed that realme X3 will feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ similar to realme X3 SuperZoom.
